An Air New Zealand Airbus A320 was reportedly involved in a near-miss with a drone near Queenstown Airport on 17 August 2016. Separation distance reported as unknown.
An Air New Zealand A320 aircraft (ZK-OXC) carrying 153 passengers was instructed to carry out a go-around when approaching Queenstown Airport because of the presence of a drone near the runway.
The aircraft had descended to 2000 feet while on approach to runway 23 when it was instructed to abort the approach. ATC had observed a drone near the end of the runway over Lake Hayes.
Air New Zealand flight NZ647 from Auckland landed about 10 minutes later than scheduled.
